Art for an art-reaction exhibition


The piece below was inspired by the pen drawing drawn by colossus Manuel Kurpershoek. 23 illustrators, including myself, selected one of his tiny drawings and reacted to it visually in any way that spoke to us. All of these where then exhibited, together with countless of Manuel’s brilliant little black-and-white creations.

I read my pen drawing as a man praying who had never prayed before. Someone awkwardly grasping for something unfamiliar and unnatural to him out of despair. In such a state one can suddenly appeal to a whole pantheon of gods.
