One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

Theatre play poster

The stage adaptation of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest has some seriously dark undertones. The art prominently features ‘The Black Machine’, which is referred to extensively in the story. This machine symbolizes the oppressive regime of the hospital staff, which is a broader analogy for the oppressiveness of  (autocratic) governments in general.

The struggle against this machine is alluded to with the poster’s unruly composition, with the typography almost a madman’s scribble.
